Neurological Dry Needling Mechanisms, Application, and Clinical Integration

COURSE INFORMATION

Description

Neurological Dry Needling Mechanisms, Application, and Clinical Integration is a lecture-based virtual synchronous course that develops the knowledge and clinical skills required to effectively assess and dry needle painful neuromuscular conditions as well as integrate other modalities into the treatment process.  This course teaches participants to treat the body locally, segmentally, and systemically. Our system is built on the foundation of Neurological Dry Needling that focuses on peri-neural and peri-vascular needling to normalize inflammation (neurogenic), microcirculation, and reduce soft tissue guarding. Our peripheral nerve mapping model is a logical and systemic process that elevates the clinical application of dry needling by needling more than just muscles.  In addition, we explore other modalities that activate endogenous anti-inflammatory mechanisms and optimize soft tissue mobility and proprioception.  Various techniques are explained including the use of electrical nerve stimulation, manual therapy, and vacuum therapy to provide participants with a variety of safe and effective treatment options.

Purpose

The purpose of the Neurological Dry Needling Mechanisms, Application, and Clinical Integration is to obtain knowledge and clinical skills necessary to diagnose and treat soft tissue pain and dysfunction.  This 6-hour course involves virtual synchronous lectures. Students will be presented with multiple case studies which are intended to provide relevance to the application and integration of dry needling and other modalities to enhance the comprehension of key concepts and techniques. These case studies enable students to critically self-evaluate if additional instruction or self- study is needed for clinical competency.

Audience

This course is designed for licensed healthcare professionals, PT’s, DC’s, M.D.’s, D.O.’s. PA’s, ATC’s and CNP’s that specialize in treating neuromusculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.

Learning Objectives
  1. Independently identify each of the three types of trigger points (homeostatic, paravertebral and symptomatic) and understand other physiologic mechanisms in a given case study.
  2. Integrate the physiological mechanisms of needling and other modalities when developing a treatment plan for a given musculoskeletal condition.
  3. Independently apply and clinically integrate dry needling treatment safely with multiple diagnoses.
  4. Correctly defend the IDN system for treatment of musculoskeletal pain based on the unique neurology, physiology of neuro-trigger points, and anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
  5. Independently integrate the IDN system into the participant’s physical therapy practice in relation to current clinical guidelines.
