My co-worker was asking about needling up through the plantar surface of the foot to get to a symptomatic point just distal to the medial calcaneal origin point of the plantar fascia. I've never needled through the plantar surface of the foot but was hoping to get some ideas or guidance from anyone here. The patient has done excellent otherwise and there is just this last symptomatic point left that the patient is saying gives some discomfort.
Any ideas?

Hi Christin,
Yes you can needle through the plantar aspect- it can be difficult in some patients so you can do cupping first to desensitize the plantar surface then target the area. I like to need from medial or lateral sides to get to the area as well. I would also focus on the tibial nerve as it comes through the tarsal tunnel if it is symptomatic. ENS is helpful in this region as well.
Hope that helps.

Also Christin I would go on your dashboard and complete your practitioner directory- patients with heel pain are looking for treatment from clinicians like you!

I have found needling in the foot to be particular painful for people. Especially in the plantar aspect, I have used an ice rub to numb first. Surprisingly helpful.

I have needles myself actually for plantar fascia pain. Insertion of needles is quite painful. I have hooked up estim to the two needles I insert and this really has enhanced the treatment and allowed me to get even better results.
