Hello! I will have a dry needling only patient starting tomorrow for bilateral lower extremities. They are paraplegic. I am unsure of their goals for dry needling at this time, but I was wondering if anyone had experience with this?

I am newly certified so may not be the best person to answer this question, but my specialty is SCI so that is the majority of the patient population I see. The first question to ask would be whether or not they have any preserved sensation below their injury level. Just because they cannot move their legs, does not mean they cannot feel them. They could have an incomplete injury. In my patients with incomplete injury they tend to have increased spasticity. So I have been using needling as a way to decrease spasticity with good success.
