Hi everyone,

I am trying to get further clarification on what is within MI's state law for physical therapists to perform dry needling with direct access paying cash. For a typical bout of therapy, we have partial direct access where we can see someone for a specific region/injury up to 3 weeks or 10 visits which ever comes first. If I am dry needling for someone who is NOT coming in for formal physical therapy, they just want needling, do I still have to respect the 3 weeks and get a script from the physician for ongoing treatment?

Thank you for any insight you can provide

Hi Alyssa,

MI is a grey state for DN so not sure how the partial direct access applies.  This is of course an important legal question that needs to be addressed by your board and or legal team-

Sorry that is general but it is something we can not make a comment on definitively- so won't.  🙂
