I have a 50 y.o. male coming in for diastasis recti that came on after starting a Pilates program. Does anyone have experience/success stories related to this? Was thinking about dry neeling the abs and lumbar spine. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a new patient that was recently diagnosed with this well.  Did dry needling help your patient? Any suggestions?

Hello!

Great question...yes! Dry needling can help your patient. Consider the abdominal needling you learned in the Foundations course, as well as the thoracic paraspinals and key lumbar H points and paraspinals. In addition, you want to consider working on lumbo-pelvic positioning and recruiting the deep stabilizers instead of the rectus abdominus muscles. There are some good kinesiotape techniques that compliment the dry needling as well. With the IDN approach, remember the 360' approach and consider what innervates the area you're trying to impact and that will assist in directing your needling.

You may want to consider taking the Lumbopelvic Clinical Integration course as well. We go through several techniques that have a great impact on the lumbo-abdominal region!

Hope this helps,
