I have a patient with absent light touch, diminished sharp, and intact deep pressure sensation after TBI. He would benefit from dry needling for neck pain, however I'm concerned about his poor sensation. If it was a small area I could avoid it, but it is global. What are your recommendations for IDN in areas of decreased sensation?

Hi Jennifer,
If there is an area that is insensate and has diminished blood flow l would not perform DN as the healing potential is a concern. Sounds like this patient has good circulation just the partial sensory loss so I would monitor him but agree that he will benefit from DN to address the musculoskeletal issues you outline.
