I have a client coming in for migraines and she is asking if needling will effect botox since I will be needling in the face. I never heard of this being a contraindication but I thought I would reach out and double check.
Thanks!

Hi Marisa, I am replying because I don’t see any other replies on here and would like to start getting on here regularly for my own benefit and that of others. I have heard that if a patient receives ‘fillers’ then the body can reabsorb that material and break it down which would shorten the life of that product. I am not sure how this concept applies to Botox though. Have you done any google search or contacted a provider who performs these injections?

Hi Marisa,
I have treated Migraines for a long time and have worked with patients getting Botox for various reasons- I assume based on your question your patient is getting botox for aesthetics _ which still may help with migraine triggers is she is getting in in the forehead (ophthalmic) region. The answer is no- DN does not negatively affect Botox and in fact helps patients that get botox for medical reasons. I had an institute with neurologists that we would use botox for migraine and other issues - they would get the injection then come back a few days later for me to evaluate and clean up the tone with DN- botox works in a small area so they can not always put some much in to completely address the issue and certainly does not address other/opposite side issues that may arise so DN is an additive and not a negative.
Hope that helps

Thanks for that answer Dr. Gargano, I was interested in that answer as well. I love all the posts, I’ll be going through them all!
