Hello everyone!

I took the foundations course this October, and I'm scheduled for the advanced course this January. I've really enjoyed practicing dry needling with friends and family and so look forward to helping my patients with this new skill!

I just saw a patient yesterday with blepharospasm. I'm seeing her for something else, but I was thinking about offering dry needling to help with the spasms. Is this something any of you have treated with DN before? Is this contraindicated?

I tried searching on Pubmed, but nothing popped up in my initial search.

I appreciate the advice; thanks!

Lillian

I have never specifically treated this, however I have used dry needling to assist in multiple other pathologies that present with high tone or spasticity which this is very similar to. I would image treating the supraorbital and infraorbital points (especially because of their shared innervation of the eye) that they could be effective tools to improving or at least decreasing her symptoms. Estim may also be beneficial. The typical treatment for this condition is Botox, and I have used DN on multiple pathologies that would typically be treated by Botox to reduce their symptoms successfully.

hope this helps!
