I have a good friend who recently tore his adductor with a small avulsion proximally. He is waiting on MRI to discuss if he’ll need surgery or not. He is a recreational CrossFit athlete and wants to get back to normal as quickly as possible. I was curious if needling would speed up the healing process potentially if he doesn’t have surgery? If so, would you want to use estim, or would you not want the muscle to contract repeatedly with a tear?

Emily,

Dry needling has potent anti-inflammatory, anti-nocioceptive effects, and balances vascular activity around injuries. It can also balances muscle tone and reduces muscular guarding. Needling without E-stim would probably be more comfortable.
