Can we needle around it? My mom has been dealing with pain on the dorsum of her foot around the talocalcaneal ligament/inferior extensor retinaculum. It started off as achilles tendonitis but that has cleared up mostly. Sudden onset not cause by any trauma. She fractured her 4th toe 7 years ago. I know in the foundations course we were taught to avoid needling varicose veins. Does that mean avoiding dry needling the leg all together or can I dry needle around the varicose veins?
Oops…uploaded wrong photos and I can’t figure out how to delete them LOL
Hey Hong,
You can needle around them with a small gauge and short-length needles to reduce inflammation but care must be taken not to directly needle into them. It takes a long time to make a difference on appearance but if they are painful it can have an effect on pain reduction.
