IDN Foundation Course – Oklahoma City
The event is finished.
The purpose of the Neurologic Dry Needling for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation Course is to obtain knowledge and clinical skills necessary to diagnose and treat soft tissue pain and dysfunction using the Integrative Dry Needling (IDN) concept. This 27-hour applied-learning course combines interactive lectures and practical hands-on labs. Students participate in several practical sessions, which are intended to provide feedback to students regarding their comprehension of key concepts and techniques. These practical lab sessions enable students to critically self-evaluate if additional instruction or self- study is needed for clinical competency.

IDN Foundation Course – Neurologic Dry Needling for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation
This Integrative Dry Needling (IDN) seminar presents the years of research and clinical experience of Dr. Ma and Dr. Gargano, which culminates into a systemic approach for the application of the physiological mechanisms of dry needling. The information is presented in a comprehensive and structured method to allow treatment to all areas of the body after this one seminar.
The systemic concept of IDN allows the practitioner to view and treat the human body as an inter-related organism, essentially the gestalt theory, yet allowing the clinical freedom to adapt the treatment for each patient. As a result IDN provides the framework upon which to address all types of musculoskeletal dysfunction. The IDN system integrates the older traditional treatment approaches to create an assessment and treatment system that drastically reduces the time spent on palpation, while improving clinical efficacy. As a result, dry needling course participants will develop a clinical protocol to allow immediate integration of dry needling into their clinical practice.

Course Content
The Integrative Dry Needling Foundation Course for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation covers:
- Dry needling techniques- (80% of the needling technique is virtually pain-free)
- Detailed, tried and tested needling safety techniques and contraindications for dry needling therapy to avoid human error in clinical practice.
- Modifiable dry needling system that easily adapts to clinical practice and to the specific needs of each patient.
- Systemic Homeostatic trigger point concept (physiological and biomechanical approach).
- Paraspinal trigger point concept (neurosegmental and dermatomal approach).
- Symptomatic trigger point concept (neuromyofascial pain in the head, neck, shoulder, upper limbs, thoracic, lumbar, hip and lower limbs).
Learning Objectives
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Participant will develop the psychomotor skills necessary to safely and effectively deliver dry needling treatment during each practical lab sessions.
- Participants will be able to identify homeostatic, paravertebral and symptomatic trigger points with an accuracy rate of 90% by the end of the course.
- Participants will demonstrate the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to evaluate and treat myofascial pain and soft tissue dysfunctions by the end of the course.
- Apply and synthesize the knowledge in the practical applications of the physiological mechanisms of needling during the case study discussions.
- Participants will be able to accurately describe the neuroanatomy and physiology of trigger points, and the unique concepts of the IDN system during the case study portion of the course.
- Participants will demonstrate the ability to provide safe and effective needling treatment, including preventing and managing adverse responses to needling and clean needling technique based on OSHA standards with 100% accuracy by the end of the seminar.
- Participant will acquire the necessary psychomotor skills and knowledge to enable them to apply integrative dry needling techniques into their physical therapy or medical practice.
Learning Activities
The 27 hour intensive practical classroom structured program addresses theory and key principles with extensive and supervised participant practice.
- Multiple PowerPoint presentations with video support will begin each new section.
- Instructor demonstration of the techniques allowing ample time for questions.
- Interactive lab session will follow where the participants practice and discuss each new technique and concept.
- After each interactive lab section is concluded there is an instructor summary and time for any additional questions.

Dr. Gargano has 25 years of orthopedic physical therapy experience with the majority of those years as the owner of a successful orthopedic private practice. In 1999 he became Board Certified in Orthopedics through the American Physical Therapy Association. In 2004, he was the recipient of the Ohio Chapter’s award for outstanding clinical excellence in recognition of his contribution to the practice of Physical Therapy. Dr. Gargano and Dr. Ma have been working and training together since 2009. Their varied clinical skills and experiences bring a new perspective to the use of a dry needling for musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Working side by side in clinical situations they are able to gain new perspectives on combining their treatment philosophies. Together they continue to expand and develop new concepts relating to the Integrative Dry Needling (IDN) Courses. Read more….

Student Reviews & Testimonials
“I have taken a dry needling course in the past and I’ve had success with treating patients with this modality. However, this course brought home a lot of the points I missed in that first course. This course is clear, concise, and has left me feeling comfortable needling difficult areas such as the anterior cervical, groin and suboccipital regions. All in all an excellent course that has definitely enhanced my PT “toolbox”.
Sandy Davis PT
‘Integrative dry needling is a great system of training. Multiple theories and approaches are brought together to create a truly integrated model. Frank and David spent a lot of one-on-one time with you to ensure your understanding. They did a great job of keeping the class fun and interesting. I would highly recommend this class to any healthcare provider.”
Patrick Danielson PT, DPT, ATC
“I feel that I can use this in my practice right away and I would like to come back for more advanced course training.’
Limary Rios, MD
“One of the best continuing education course I’ve attended. Frank does a great job of presenting the course in an informative yet straight forward manner. All the information presented is of clinical relevance; you walk away feeling like you can go to work on monday and start to DN patients.”
